Important Logistical
Information Meals
A fair estimate for three meals a day would be
between $40 - $50. This estimate is based on the prices of restaurants
in the downtown Atlanta area, located in close proximity to the hotel
as well as GSU and our center. There is a good variety of restaurants
in the downtown area, offering different types of cuisines and a nice
atmosphere as well.
Lodging
Marriott Residence Inn
We generally use the Marriott residence Inn located in downtown Atlanta
for our visitors. It is located conveniently close to our Campus and our
center and is within walking distance of restaurants and shopping areas.
The Residence Inn offers extended stay accommodation. The rooms include
small kitchenettes, incase anyone desires to do some light cooking in
their rooms. We have a special arrangement with the Residence Inn and
have established a rate of $109/night for single occupancy and $54.5 for
double occupancy rooms (including breakfast). We have held rooms so reservations
are guaranteed. Further details about the Residence Inn are available
on their website . (http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/ATLDT).

is located in the northern part of the state. The city itself is
relatively small in land area at 340.8 sq km (131.6 sq mi) and

but the metropolitan region is one of the largest in the
southeastern United States (population: 4,112,198), encompassing
15,867 sq km (6126 sq mi), occupying 20 counties, and containing a
number of smaller established municipalities such as Decatur,
Marietta, Douglasville, and Roswell. The Atlanta region's recent
growth in population has been matched by rapid economic growth. The
undisputed business capital of the Southeast, Atlanta houses the
headquarters of some of the largest and best-known companies in the
United States, including Coca-Cola, United Parcel Service (UPS),
Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Turner Broadcasting System, CNN, and
Delta Air Lines, Inc. In addition, more than four-fifths of the
nation’s largest businesses maintain branch offices in the
metropolitan area. The city is also gaining a reputation as an
international business center. You can learn more details about Atlanta online at http://www.accessatlanta.com and at http://atlanta.citysearch.com
Georgia State
University Georgia State University (www.gsu.edu), a member
institution of the University System of Georgia, is the second
largest among 78 accredited institutions of higher learning in the
state of Georgia. The university is located in downtown Atlanta,
Georgia, within walking distance of the state capital, city and
county administrative headquarters, the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank
and the international corporate headquarters of CNN, Coca-Cola and

colleges. These are the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies,
College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, College of
Health and Human Services, College of Law and the J. Mack Robinson
College of Business. The university serves over 30,000
students through 50 degree programs and 217 majors. Approximately
8,000 students are enrolled in the University’s graduate degree

Andrew Young School of Policy
Studies The Andrew Young School of Policy
Studies (aysps.gsu.edu), named after Ambassador Andrew Young, was established at
Georgia State University in 1996 with the objective of promoting
excellence in the design, implementation, and evaluation of public
policy. Following the reorganization of Georgia State University’s
College of Business Administration and the College of Public
Administration and Urban Studies (PAUS), the Department of Economics
and the departments of the former College of Public Administration
and Urban Studies were incorporated into the new School. The Andrew
Young School also houses several of the University’s most prominent
research centers and programs, including the International Studies
Program, Fiscal Research Program, Domestic Studies Program, Georgia
Health Policy Center, Applied Research Center, Environmental Policy
Program, and Research Atlanta, Inc..
As a result of the
Andrew Young School’s contributions to real-world economic and
policy reform programs in the United States and around the world,
the School is recognized worldwide as a global knowledge center in
the fields of economic policy and public administration. In
addition, the School’s academic programs in public finance and urban
management are ranked among the ten best graduate programs in the
United States by US News & World Report.
International Studies
Program The International Studies Program (http://isp-aysps.gsu.edu) was
established in 1996 within the newly formed Andrew Young School of
Policy Studies with the objective of providing academic and
technical training, research and technical assistance in support of
sound public policy and sustainable economic growth in transition
and developing economies. The International Studies Program
supports the School’s mission of promoting excellence in the design,
implementation, and evaluation of public policy by making our policy
expertise and international experience available to policy makers
and government officials in developing and transitional countries
through technical assistance projects, consultancies, and training
programs.
The International Studies Program brings together
the strengths of cutting-edge technical expertise, extensive
real-world policy experience, and solid project management
capabilities. Unlike many consulting firms, the success of the
International Studies Program reflects the breadth and depth of the
technical expertise that the International Studies Program can draw
upon. The Andrew Young School's faculty are leading experts in
economics and public policy and have authored books, published in
major academic and technical journals, and have extensive experience
in designing and implementing technical assistance and training
programs. In contrast to many academic researchers, the
International Studies Program’s faculty have extensive experience in
resolving real-world policy challenges, with combined work
experience in over 40 developing and transition economies around the
world.
At the same time, the International Studies Program’s
international technical assistance and training efforts uniquely
complement the academic research and the educational mission of the
Andrew Young School. The exposure to international policy challenges
that the ISP brings to the School, as well as the interaction with
government leaders and policy makers from around the world enriches
the School’s academic environment and deepens the Andrew Young
School’s commitment to resolving international policy
challenges.
