Local Government Finance Reform in Tanzania

The International Studies Program at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies has been providing extensive and ongoing technical assistance and capacity building support to the Government of Tanzania in support of local government finance reform in Tanzania since September 2002.

Key projects or studies conducted by the International Studies Program in Tanzania include:

• Development of a System of Intergovernmental Grants in Tanzania (2002);
• Implementing A System Of Formula-Based Blocks Grants To Local Government Authorities In Tanzania (2003-05); and
• Development of a Strategic Framework for the Financing of Local Governments in Tanzania (2004-05).
