International Training Activities
As part of the ISP's mission to promote excellence in the design, implementation, and evaluation of public policy in developing and transitional economies, the International Studies Program conducts training
programs, workshops, and study tours for public officials in key areas of public policy. These areas include fiscal policy, budgeting
and fiscal management, intergovernmental
fiscal relations (fiscal decentralization) and economic
and fiscal analysis in developing and transition economies.
ISP's Public Policy Summer Training Courses
Each summer, from June through August, the International
Studies Program offers its
Public Policy Summer Training Courses. The training courses,
specifically designed for government officials from developing and transition
countries, include courses on fiscal analysis and revenue forecasting;
public budgeting and fiscal management; and fiscal decentralization (intergovernmental
fiscal relations). The training courses are designed, developed, and implemented
by senior faculty members from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies.

Customized (Country-Specific) Training Programs
In additional to our annual fiscal policy training program, the ISP develops
and implements training programs that address specific policy
issues in individual countries. For these programs, we engage
in a collaborative effort with the host government and the donor to identify
and analyze the policy issues at hand. Training sessions are then tailored
specifically to the relevant policy issues in the host country and the
experience level of the program's participants. Recent examples of such
customized programs include the annual week-long training programs for
USAID officers under the USAID Fiscal Reform
Project conducted by the ISP, as well as fiscal decentralization
training programs conducted by ISP in Uganda
in 2003; Guyana and Nepal
in 2004; Tanzania and Timor-Leste
in 2005; and Bangladesh in
2005 and 2006.
Fiscal Policy Resource Center
The Fiscal Policy
Resource Center is an online ISP initiative to promote excellence in the practice of fiscal policy. The Fiscal Policy Resource Center makes online
learning materials available in the fields of fiscal policy and applied
economics. The materials are designed to provide clear, structured, and
comprehensive overviews of key areas of fiscal policy and economic reform.
